Operation Big Boy Bed

Tuesday, December 13th, 2005

A few days ago Ryan climbed out of his crib. I wasn’t here when it happened, but I have it on good authority that it was quite a funny scene with Ryan clinging to the edge, feet mere inches from a hard surface, squealing, “DADDADDADDAD!”. I’d have run for the camera.

We loaded up the gang and headed out to pick up a toddler bed for the brand new big boy. He’s slept in it two nights in a row (and a nap yesterday, too) with only one fall. I tell him, “Let’s go night night!” and he runs and crawls up and waits to be tucked. He got out of bed last night shortly after his tucking and ran down the hall giggling like a maniac, but went straight to sleep the second time.

I can’t believe we’ll never have a crib in our house again. It’s been 5-1/2 years of cribs and diapers, bottles and high chairs. Now Ryan uses a sippy and sits in a booster at the table with the rest of us. But he’s so much fun, now. He loves to tickle-tickle and gives awesome hugs. He says ’scuse you if someone burps and bless if someone sneezes. He says thank you when you give him something and he loves it when his daddy comes home. We’re definitely starting out our No More Babies years on a good foot.

Cutest Thing EVER

Wednesday, December 7th, 2005

While sitting at the table having some PB&J sandwiches, I overheard this little conversation:

Lauren: Yum yum yum!
Ryan: Deeeelioso!

Ah! They’ve got to stop being so cute or I’ll never get anything done.

Quick update on the sickness issues. Lauren is MUCH better today. She’ll be going back to school tomorrow. Katie is still running a slight fever, but she’s also feeling lots better. Ryan had a chest x-ray at his appointment yesterday. He’s got the beginnings of pneumonia so we’ve got to keep an eye on him and make sure he gets his meds to keep it from going to full blown pneumonia. That’s it. Everyone is on the road to recovery.

Don’t Get Too Close, You’ll Catch It Too

Everyone is running fevers and coughing. Lauren has missed school two days in a row now and I hate that. She loves school so much and she feels okay. But I know how upset I’d be if someone sent their child to school with a fever and cough and my child ended up sick. Especially so close to Christmas. Poor Kate has it the worst. She’s been miserable and her poor little eyes are so red. So, a round of appointments this afternoon and a trip to clean out the pharmacy are in order.

I got Christmas cards ordered last night so that’s done. Now we just have to do some Christmas shopping. We haven’t even started. Wait, I take that back. Justin got his present a little early, but other than that, nada. The girls are driving me nuts with the “I want that!” during commercials.

December is a busy, busy month for us. Justin finished his last college class before he deploys and we’ve got lots of other things going on for the holidays, etc. And with that, my sick lovelies need some attention.

Another Year

Monday, December 5th, 2005

Yesterday was my birthday. The big 2-6. We went to Chil’s courtesy of my wonderful in-laws, then stopped by the store to pick up some torture devices, otherwise known as Santa hats. I was thinking it would be nice to have a Christmas photo of the kids, but apparently it was a baaaad idea.

The Money Shot

No worries, I’ll use the Nyquil if I have to. I WILL get a good Christmas card photo this year.

I also spent last night in the ER with Kate. She’s got bronchitis and conjunctivitis. Poor baby was running a 103.5 temp yesterday. Lauren also has the pink eye, so she’s home from school today and we’re all just vegging in front of the TV trying to get well.
